Visit by Thailand Ambassador & Thailand Arbitration Centre (THAC)
17 September 2014 – KLRCA had the pleasure of hosting its newly established Asean counterpart, the Thailand Arbitration Centre (TAC) at its new premises, Bangunan Sulaiman for an official visit. Tan Sri Cecil Abraham, a member of KLRCA’s Advisory Board welcomed the seven delegates from the Thailand Arbitration Centre on behalf of the Director of KLRCA who was away on official duties. Also in attendance was the Thai Ambassador to Malaysia, His Excellency Krit Kraichiti.
The delegates from TAC, headed by Managing Director – His Excellency Pasit Asawawattananporn were here in KLRCA on a visit to learn and formulate about how other established arbitral institutions operate. Upon Tan Sri Cecil’s welcoming introduction, Faris Shehabi, KLRCA’s Deputy Head of Legal Services then took to the floor to present a comprehensive coverage on KLRCA’s background, functions and methods of operation. Shehabi went on to provide salient points as to why parties are keen on arbitrating in Malaysia; as the cost of living is lower, legal services being much more competitive as well as the Malaysian Courts rarely interfering in arbitral proceedings.
Both parties discussed on ways to forge strategic partnerships as well as initiate collaborative activities between KLRCA and TCA. The enterprising visit concluded with the delegates from the Thailand Arbitration Centre being taken on a tour around Bangunan Sulaiman.
