In the legal profession, adhering to legal ethics is exceptionally crucial to practitioners and has been given its utmost attention by the legal, regulatory bodies in almost all jurisdictions. However, the burning questions that ought to be asked - do ethics apply to arbitration lawyers who are not practising anymore and have given up their license or to arbitrators who are not lawyers? Should it be fair to relieve non-practitioners from the ethical burden and possible regulatory sanctions or otherwise subject them to ethical rules to a certain extent? To find an answer to these complicated questions, we need to explore the depths of our personal ethics and consciousness as well as to refer to the core aims and purposes of arbitration itself.
